Swollen Ankles From Hives

media in school

are you all waiting and sometimes students, and to know about the equipment of the public schools my hardware and software. If you know it should not, because their example, to a private school wait, I describe first the situation at my school, a small school (700 students).
Our school have two computer rooms, each containing 20 computers. The computers Windows XP is installed, and they are all connected to a network, such as the well is so common in schools. This network includes some additional features, such as the ability as a teacher at the screens, mouse and keyboard to access the student. In addition, a lock is used for the Internet, which changes very frequently in their effects. So on some days, each side is blocked by the parties, with the comment that they belonged to the category of propaganda, and days when even the side of large publishing houses, so the lock to the category Education and included, and therefore not apply to school should be accessible. On still other days, all mail accounts are no longer accessible, and it is no longer possible in the classroom earned secure. For us students the best days so if the lock fails, even if this means that some of the time trying to test whether all sides are released, as is the case, and makes it possible to at school & Youporn Co. to surf, which I think is the minimum that should be blocked.
So now you know the confused situation of the school network, and I can not describe how the whole thing could be simplified, and why nobody does this.
First of all, I believe should be installed by an operating system, which is free and open, and to adjust to the needs of the school can. For this I can highly recommend Ubuntu, and also it is clear that the administrator would have to adjust to a new system, which would involve some work. Some students had at least initially problems with settling into a new, differently structured system.
long term, but would avoid a lot of work related transition expenses, as many errors were caused by Windows eradicated. Also have to get the other students would have an advantage: you realize that there are also software beyond proprietary standards. Thus, the propaganda would Microsoft be stopped at the schools.
The Internet locks could by simple control of teachers be improved by a program to lock certain pages on the computer of the teacher is installed, which makes it possible to restrict all access to certain pages. So in the first hours would first Facebook and SchülerVZ, and subsequently followed by all other not for teaching imaginary or get on the list, and created so suitable for teaching profile of each teacher, the important thing that any teacher even a manages its own list, depending on the way to where it allows access to the students. This is important because, especially on sites like Wikipedia, everyone has their own opinion.
Now go to the hardware. In my school, any PC with an AMD Athlon processor, 1024 MB DDR2 RAM and a relatively normal other hardware features, which were each uninstalled the sound driver, which does not interfere further, but only distributes the fun videos. Furthermore, we have on every PC a 19-inch flat screen, with some within the 2 years that they have already endured at school, spots or black bars on the display. It probably would have been better to stick with the old CRT monitors, which were still fully functional, and instead to invest in new projectors and other equipment for the school. Otherwise, the school can not really complain about hardware.
Now to the reasons why no free software at schools like mine is used:
  • The money is earmarked for software and must be issued if they are saved, the school can not use it for other investments.
  • The proprietary software is already available. That is a change to other software is a lot of work and training among the teachers, administrators and service employees inside the cities.
  • Proprietary software is heavily sponsored by the manufacturers. Many software companies view their investments in educational software as an investment in future customers. Less so are the children who learn in school, dealing with Microsoft Office 07 on OpenOffice.Org change, as children in school will learn with OpenOffice, stick with OpenOffice.
  • There are moving forward with problems in the use of two operating systems, and even between similar programs connect to a few points of friction that can constantly disrupt normal processes in the classroom. (See OpenOffice / MS Office 2007, ODF / docx)
a Happy New Year and have fun just thinking about the problems I outlined all the (few) readers.

Brie Bullet And Black Cat Chatareters

Sydney and so ...

on Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera ... complete with
that we would eventually celebrate Christmas without even the family, gingerbread and the banquet, we would probably not before so long thought impossible. Now we can say: So if they did, then somewhere where it's warm! For example, in Australia or even Sydney ...

This small port city has just 3.6 million people and scores with reluctant sleepiness, clarity, and small town charm ... not!
Sydney is geographically huge inviting during the confusion of free and paid for roads (expensive) procedures. The approximately 90-minute drive from our home in the suburb of Richmond to the center turns out actually quite relaxed. We can already see the skyline, the target can not therefore be missed. Then we turn into a tunnel. When we again see the light of day, the skyline is put back into the distance - crap! Finally arrived at the destination, we are moving towards "Botanical Gardens" and "Opera".
The tried and tested mix of young and old ...

We quickly recognize that the city is as good as extinct (Note: Christmas Day = almost everything has to), while in the park properly what is going on. We sit at home, gnawing on a goose, to choral music, celebrate in front of the Christmas tree and listen to the residents of Sydney, the festival in a different way. You sit down with friends or family in the park, grill some juicy steaks and empties it one or the other sleeve of beer (or mal'n Weinchen) during the radio blasting out of the Beach Boys. As we left without breakfast, is the passage of this most delicious Scents and smells like a torture. We rely on our saddest dog looks anxious and scrape with their feet, perhaps to catch the odd treat. We harvest only shake their heads, probably because our drool dribbles on the steaks. Well ...
ant war before the opera
... and again with the skyline in the background.

But fortunately we reached with great difficulty and with every last ounce of strength an ice cream stand at the Sydney Opera where we first again provided us with energy. The Opera is smart to look at, although we're happy to have a read threw a glance. The Harbour Bridge is also impressive, but time is short, our ticket to the mobile housing unit expired soon. So we strolled through the pedestrian zone, past transactions connected by one or the other park and past many old religious buildings. And back to Richmond, we find without having to go through expensive highways, it turned out to be also quite simple, we had only really taken a wrong turn. No matter ...
... in Sydney, there's also lots of greenery.

After so many big city meet again after more nature and serenity. We pack our things and rush to the north. A visit of the Australians urlaubswütigen boiling over Norah Head, we agree that we need to escape all of this for now.

Newcastle was our next stop, and even if we did not see much of the city, she is here to stay but remember, for here we saw our first koalas and wombats.
... this blank stare ... Hello? Who's there?

In Blackbutt National Reserve, a protected area under indirect town nearby, supplies the city dwellers and our tourists do not only with beautiful hiking trails and kangaroos and emus under lock and key, but also with the other two national animals of Australia. The Wombat is not quite so vulnerable we are the Koala, but because of its nocturnal activity mode unfortunately often hit by cars. Nevertheless, he showed us very active during the day and very, very "I-will-it-with-to-take-home"!
Wombat ... A cute, hairy and thick ... like me!

The koalas are quite nice, but they have such a weird blank stare, perhaps because of the shrunken brain activity (this being decided in the course of evolution, to shrink their brains to conserve energy - please not to make at home).
... next to the food remains have time to stare at his own belly ...

The remaining route of flight is the same. A plate avalanche rolled north and we do not want to be swallowed by it. So we go late into the rainy night (well, not that!) Landscapes, until we treat ourselves to a lay-deserved beauty sleep. It rains throughout the night, which gives us a hand and a calming Dröppeln other hand, a puddle at the entrance.
rest stop romance in Van ...

Well, can not be changed. The weather has certainly improved, and we have not spoil the mood. left New South Wales - A short hike to a waterfall here (! short hike through the torrential streams, over fallen trees and leeches to the pants, but otherwise it was fine) , a beach walk there, then another night in a hippie village is duly adopted.
too fast for the Blügel: Jenny

about ... 100 meters to the bottom ... the waterfall Minyon

Queensland received us with a mixture of sun and thick, rich dark clouds. We first drove to the Gold Coast in the hope that the sun would seem cute, what she has done between then actually. So we could have breakfast on the beach and rumlatschen, while all others around it had to do sports like crazy. This was followed by by Brisbane, in the direction Glass House Mountains. This small mountain chain impressed us with its beauty and with his (mysterious) history. However, it impressed us that the rain seems to be your guide!
... these are the way to Lava stumps that remained after the erosion of real volcano ...

Although for a few days, only rare and short rains, the cool water is still everywhere from now on. Since many places heavily for months what has fallen from the sky, the streets are often affected, sometimes even been locked. Some regions are isolated from the outside world. We are concerned if that flooded a campsite here and there (and evacuated because of it), and the ride on these pool tables of roads is very tiring. In addition, currently is the link road to Cairns (we have to hand in two weeks, our car and get on the plane) at Bundaberg locked. We still have time to cross this area, so we need not panic.
... the lagoon at Noosa Heads

Easier said than done, a thousand and one thought buzzing through my head simultaneously. But what the hell, man and woman can make it straight eh nix. Therefore we have parked our mobile unit for the next few days in Tewantin and welcome first in the New Year!
Hackschrippe for dinner (today you can fondue!)
At night, temperatures are most comfortable ... that is why we are here to see out there too!
all a happy new year! Cheers!

you all a happy, healthy and happy new year, slipping in and no good Fool around, we would not do that!

What to write?

Hello Blog Friends;)

sure you know the problem at the beginning of each blog: How does one write best at? This is pretty much the first question, it opened at one Blogs answer applies. I choose this is the classic method: I ask only once before.
I'm Nohk Wojtek, I'm from Duisburg in the Ruhr, students, and have great pleasure in art and politics. The most important question that I plan in my first blog to answer will be, how it is possible to slow things such as policies on developing technology to create lightning. I personally am therefore not really involved extensively, and use the blog as well, to find my own opinion.
Who am I to say there's also that I am a member of the party Bündnis'90 Greens, but also sympathize with parts of the ideology of the Pirate Party, I though the party as a whole does not support it, because me their party platform is too narrow, and is not dealing with major social, economic, financial and social policy issues.
in the course of my blogs I look at the problems of politics, but also the community in relation to the use of new media, but also describe specific technical systems and software present. Please
In the sense I get feedback and comments, and look forward to every reader. You can find me also at Twitter or you can send me an email .

Hook Up Dell Subwoofer

Blue Christmas

The Blue Mountains

Hello, Santa Claus! Before the meat is cut into, here are a few dates of the flip-flop Group on the current situation in the far south-east. After a few days on the coast, we moved inland to the capital Canberra, virtually pure culture ... went from there, the wild ride continues towards the Blue Mountains, an impressive National Park on Sydney's doorstep. Well now we're in Richmond, a suburb of Sydney, where we prepare ourselves mentally and morally for the evening Microwave Christmas Dinner.
Jenny and the Sea ...

Canberra
If you're already in a foreign country on business trips, you should also visit its capital. So off to Canberra. The guide warned that this is not just stitched the (koala) bears, we travel without great expectations of this city that 100 years ago halfway between Sydney and Melbourne has been built from the ground to hurt any egos. On our arrival we will be surprised after all. Not because the city is so great, but because we run in the Parliament building Matze and Micah on the road. The two are just passing through and actually on the way to Melbourne ... The world is a village! Otherwise, shows us Canberra unerstaunlich amazing. Apart from the interesting architecture of the government district, which is the center of the city, Canberra is at most through a wealth of museums and galleries score.
The roof of the Parliament Building

We also use smooth, probably around our shrunken brain cells to revive a bit. In the new Parliament House, we met not only the boys but also to a sprightly pensioner, who took us to a larger group by the Parliament and us, the Australian legislature said.
The next morning we went straight to the Questacon, the Technical Museum in Canberra for more young than old. A real art-museum, you can call it, because to get unfortunately gives too little knowledge. But it was also rather for the little ones: flight simulators, little teasers Flashes of light and magical illusions are still a few moments.
Honey, who shrunk the Basti?

wanted after the physical stuff to look at Basti nor the building of the National Portrait Gallery, that was touted in the guide as a madhouse. To the disappointment of that untruth again to make up, we visited the free exhibition and were very impressed many beautiful portraits of significant Australians and their life stories expanded our cultural horizons. After so much technical and intellectual Firlefranz it went back into nature.
... on the way towards the Blue Mountains ...
Blue Mountains
away a good 2-hour ride from Canberra to rise almost unnoticed, the Blue Mountains. Unnoticed, because you actually continue on a large level (plateau) is located. Just that here flows over many millennia have raged and cut by deep canyons into the country. So so ... Anyway, we come at some point in a valley that is home to a campground, but otherwise seems particularly inhabited by kangaroos. Everywhere bounce around the critters. If one night from the locus returns, these industrious jump scare a miracle almost to death because they bounce around like the idiot of course. Arrrgh! [Sorry, I have to sometimes just wipe the foam from your mouth! Jenny continues ...]
times ... very nice ...

... dedicated time in a double (to become mothers !)...
... let the beatings. stumbled

During Basti on the night of kangaroos is, I wondered more about the ethereal fragrance that I streamed forth at night, then like a flash flag that exactly what I am to discover, that we are in a eucalyptus forest!
The next morning the sun welcome you with a smile, we decided to extend the campsite and made our way for a small hike. It was already noticed by the eucalyptus forest, its inhabitants (colorful parrots, lizards, Butterflies and kangaroos) welcomed us with cheerful chirping and flapping their wings.
uncle Uwe Quote: "Do you know, these colorful birds Papagays"
... and more. ..
... a beautiful dragonfly was also on site ...
... and a small butterfly.

The goal was our hike a small stream whose origin and end guess we could go and gave us the opportunity for a snack (actually just, because I was previously slipped and my shoe And the socks were soaking wet).
... a small but beautiful canyon.

Since we were still full of energy after the hike, we purchased two more tickets for a cave exploration. The cave was Kooringa us to be very spectacular advertised and this time, the promises come true, too. Guided by a talkative Australian Ranger, we discovered the small cave in the area, which had grown to offer thousands and thousands of underground formations. In the harmonic beam of light and accompanied by the knowledge of the Rangers, we were impressed us about this natural wonder.
... was a short detour: one of the Womboyan-Caves.

After the days of the kangaroo intuition, we drove really well into the Blue Mountains. In glorious weather stops us smaller led to various view points from which they had some wonderful views of the canyons, always close to the proverbial abyss.
... a life on the edge of the abyss: Stuntman Sebastian Shark

The Three Sisters, we learned a little about the Aboriginal background of mountains and were soon at sunset admiring the blue haze of the mountains (blue because of the oils secreted by the Eucalyptus trees)
... after a small climb.

Richmond
This suburb of Sydney has done to us. But not because he is idyllically situated on the Hawkesbury River, but because he has a senior center of excellence. Here is everything that can double heart beat faster. Nice cafes, good restaurants, NEN's own hairdresser (focused on permanent wave), plenty of room to play lawn bowling, petanque, and a slot casino, where you drop the third out. For us particularly interesting knock-down prices to a parking space for our campers, including free Internet. We consider whether we to the Christmas dinner, which this year turns out right microwave-heavy, might want to look even a game of bingo in the senior center. That would certainly be filled with fun. And then when I expected the five magic letters (BINGO) call, that would be the best Christmas ever.
... Ho ho ho ... high!

you out there like a spectacular, peaceful and abundant gifts-bringing Christmas! Until the days!
Enjoy the holidays and especially the delicious food! We think of you and come with a glass of Australian wine in the festival of love and family!

Hrconfidentiality Agreement

Christmas story that went down in history

the days I sat at the doctor. There, I grabbed a copy of the star (star # 50, 12/09/2010). In it I found a very impressive article (a copy will be here ).

It is about an HIV-infected man who fell ill with leukemia additionally. That in itself I find it really hard. But then you develop this story:
The man was a doctor of the Berlin Charité. The latter tried stem cell donors in the bone marrow file and found it. Among the potential donors there was one who had a particular genetic mutation, whereby the receptor CCR5 changed so that the docking of the HIV quasi impossible. The mutation should have 0.1% of all Europeans who are immune to HIV.

These mutant stem cells were transplanted into the patient, with success. For it might the HI virus in the blood no longer be detected (it will probably explicitly do not "cure", but "not detectable" spoken), which continues even today. The same happened to the end (so far final only after a second transplant) with the blood cancer.

So the man was by a happy coincidence of two extremely serious illness through genetic mutation rescued from donor stem cells and was incidentally the first man, in which the HIV virus could be combated.

has of course the whole not to be underestimated side effects. Time of the death rate of 30% except for such interventions, was the man through the whole Treatments a physical wreck, making mostly paralyzed and only now has tens of therapy to walk again and his memory and language skills to train again.

it in recent years, more such treatments have been tried, but failed either to the non-existence of suitable donors or the death rate from leukemia. Still, it's kind of a glimmer of hope on the horizon. I for one was impressed by this story - even if it is supposed to have two years to be known.

Here all this a little closer FAZ article (18/07/2010) is.

What Color Wire Do You Connect The Conrtrol To

In and around Melbourne

In which country is probably the sign?

The title "broiler or kiwi" is actually not quite up to date, we have recently in the land of kangaroos on the road. The tears have dried farewell the New Zealand, Australia welcomed us with open arms. Starting point of our tour is the second largest city in the country, including Melbourne. From here, to be managed to Cairns in the next four weeks, the East Coast via Sydney to go up, certainly in a campervan. As the first few days were? See for yourself!

Melbourne
Since the alarm is already in Christchurch at 3.30 clock rings at night (yay ...), we are already at about 9 clock in the morning at Melbourne Airport, the day can therefore be used more fully. Because on arrival and a lying in bed sample rude awakening tired, needs a short nap can be inserted. Four hours later, this also already finished, we go to the track. Our hotel is situated on the outskirts of the city center, the main attractions are within easy walking distance or a free, the inner ring road tram distance.

The free tram is like a time machine with which you back to the early 20th Century will be offset, while the pay-Tram resembles those of Berlin.
Melbourne presentation is modern: The focus in "Wishing Penguin", where you can deposit its wish list for Santa ...

... Art and skyscrapers dominate the city center ...

Speaking of attractions, of which there are in Melbourne a lot. On the one hand attracts the modern, from a towering skyscrapers and shopping centers existing city, on the other hand, invite countless museums, churches and other old buildings to visit. The personal goal in Australia not to go shopping too much is thrown after about 30 minutes loitering on board. With the rich foaming at the mouth, very satisfied and two Bermuda I leave the shop. After a long stroll and window shopping has created a first overview of the Centre. The city like that. For the next few days, a plan is forged, such as Melbourne can be explored in a limited time.
addition skyscrapers can be found also many secluded spots ...

day two
Basti had indeed his success with the short pants, I hoped my joy at the Victoria Market. This is not small but very, very fine weekly market is held by the Melbournenianern every two days and makes us the Mouth water together. Anything can get you there, starting with the fish and meat fresh from the butcher, bank and from the network over to vegetables and fruit fresh from the field, bread fresh from the oven, and above all fresh delicacies. Our breakfast was therefore delightfully chewy with tzatziki, guacamole and fresh bread for eindippen!
hustle and bustle in the Victoria Market

went after this brilliant early bite it then on into town and walk this meant running and more running. Past the Gothic cathedrals, the parks, for Stage and to the port, just hopped on the tram for two stops and then it went through the city always accompanied by a glorious sun shining between old stone houses and modern skyscrapers through. The end of our tour took us to the Greek district. Since Basti was looking forward since Christchurch on a real Greek dinner, we decided to end our day there.
chair dance with a difference ...
day three
The last day in Melbourne was actually scheduled for the whole park, botanical garden and for a short trip to neighboring districts. However, the weather did not play really. When we stepped out the door, we received the last drops of rain pattered. But since we are not made of sugar, we still got in the tram in the direction of St. Kilda, the most popular spot on the outskirts of the city by the sea. There we expected storm-force winds. I personally am very much looking forward to the Luna Park, an old-fashioned amusement park with rides and other amusement machines, unfortunately, our turn came too early because the park was the week only during the holidays. Well, sometimes the dream is even more beautiful than the Reality.
The Luna Park and Jenny, who was no admission granted ...

Back it went, of course again with the tram, the sun came out and made a little humor to an ice cream, at least for Basti. He had underestimated that the balls are a bit bigger here than at home, so Basti held at the end of a huge mountain Meloneneis in hand. Half's all nothing, because I had to help him for better or worse! Luckily it was very tasty!
Hmm ... a delicious melon iceberg ...

After so much ice in my stomach we had to rest to us first, and what lends itself to better than cinema in the hotel bed (Pay TV). Granted, there was then even a round of sweets (the perfect training preparation). Fortunately the day was not over yet. A dinner walk was needed. At the Victoria Market. Every Wednesday in summer, there will be a culinary night, with wine, women and song. So much for the dinner walk. There was a great finish to great three days in Melbourne. Half the town was on the road, Young and old enjoyed English sangria and a variety of culinary dishes and listen to the live music of the local police band. Great fun.
If not Wednesday evenings at the Victoria Park is celebrating only himself to blame ...

day four
The city has not yet come to know us properly or it is us going again. We want to see the rest of the island. Again, a camper is rented, which will serve us in the next few weeks as a rolling basis. Curious how the Flitzebögen we take our new companions in appearances, the still nameless is. He is outwardly top shape, inside a little bit long in the day but clean. We are finally satisfied, even when Jenny first a Schnute takes like 10 days of rain.
After all formalities, we make our way east. Not so easy to leave the city without paying any toll. So we wind ourselves using more than one dam ... eidenen card through the outskirts of Melbourne, but some time the city limit is passed. As the next few weeks we will probably move very heavy coast are, we decide only once for a short trip into the mountains - stupid idea! After serpentine-heavy drive we arrive in a winter resort called "Mt Baw Baw "in which in the summer in" Mt might be called Dance of Death Dance of Death ". From the promised summer toboggan run is to see nüscht, it is very cold (you can see his own breath ...) and a campground is not available. Darn it, angry we drive towards the coast, as we know at least what you have. A few hours later we arrive at our destination on time in Gippsland to experience a beautiful sunset, then it goes to bed.
A place to unwind once so beautiful: the Gippsland

day five
The next morning starts with a promising cricket cicada concert at its finest. The ear-splitting volume to have the creatures are about male size and are well fed. Other monstrosities: at the toilet wall are the dried remains of gigantic flies, hornets can look like mayflies. Mmm ... tasty was otherwise survived the first night in the camper good. Jenny starts to shine brightly again.
The day will be filled with several beach walks (including Ninety Mile Beach, which was really long ...) and visiting an Aboriginal museum. On the way we get first insight into the fauna of Australia offered. Kangaroos, koalas (unfortunately dead on the roadside), pelicans and lizards have our eyes are bigger. Moreover, of all places colorful birds migrate with their cries of our attention.
We finally sleep on a giant tent in the heart of a national park. This landscape is very beautiful, but at night we get like this with nothing, because our eyes are closed at this time! (Ah ...)
Hach sweet ...
Hach sweet ...
Hach well ...
night encouraging web ...

day six
The morning does not bode well. The parrots make noise and it's raining. We want the good-morning mood, however, can not perish and go to the nearest beach. Apart from kangaroo tracks in the sand and the one or two funny rock formation are not the skin from the beach Socks. But that is perhaps the weather, which has not really improved. We flee in front of threatening rain, is after all not the last beach in Australia. After a short drive us the sun again-We are now in a coastal area that has the promising name "Sapphire Coast. Accordingly, the present beaches, which are seemingly endless and mostly secluded in its spectacular blue sea.
... the Pinnacles on the Sapphire Coast.

so will the town of Merimbula, our station tonight. We are unaware of the Office to work for the night to register and then falls Basti everything from the face. Just today, namely, had the high season for most campgrounds and triple the prices started abruptly. But the nice lady at the reception desk shows us the same alternative, the very, should be very much cheaper. We sit a while in the campervan, look a bit stupid from washing, Basti probed the situation, I'm still stunned, because suddenly there's a knock on the window. See that the nice lady from the reception is still time to stay here and is our last night at half price. Phew, what a luck. So we make a good deal and the Camping Big Bucks, as there is always a very, very empty. Notice, however, the holiday season is not student-friendly budget.
... on the way to the end of the rainbow.

PS: We do not have a name for our campervan. Elmo and Aimee were called our New Zealand camper, but he is now-Name. As some of you are looking to name anyway, can here also like some suggestions are made. As a reward, there is again an ice cream when we're back;)
Ozzie ... Oi!
